TRETOWER LIVERY
We offer a bespoke livery service where your horse or pony will be cared for as an individual, enjoying their creature comforts whilst living as naturally as possible, in the beautiful Welsh countryside.
TRETOWER LIVERY - BESPOKE RETIREMENT PACKAGES FOR YOUR HORSE
We think it is imperative that horses and ponies live as natural a life as possible; with space to roam, graze and socialise. We also recognise that as they become older, they will have additional, individual needs.
Nestled in a valley in the beautiful Welsh countryside where winters tend to be milder, we offer herd turnout on herbal leys and improved grazing year round on gently sloped or flat fields with established hedges and natural shelter. In the spring, summer and early autumn horses, and ponies, will be in small groups of four to six, matched together to accommodate individual characters, ages, genders and waistlines (both ways!)! As late autumn rolls in, they will have access to our large, airy barns, bedded down with woodchip then quality straw. We strongly believe that all horses, and particularly older ones, should be able to move freely so the barns are designed to be used in a way that they can come and go from the surrounding fields as they please throughout winter, with access to external hardstanding outside the barns too. There will be ad lib hay, with haylage available for those who need the additional help in the winter.
We ask that every horse coming into the herd has a faecal worm count and saliva test, and treated for any worms found before arriving. As part of our package will have three faecal worm counts done a year, to ensure a healthy, as necessary worming program. Routine foot trims are included in our packages and we have regular visits from the equine dentist. We will send regular updates and photos, and you are always welcome to come and stay at our lovely Shepherds Hut to visit your horse.
At Tretower Livery we want to offer peace of mind; your horse will be part of the family here. Treated as individuals, we will tailor our care to their needs.

We have the option to offer youngstock livery on more sloped fields with good grass, and barn accommodation in the winter. We could offer a discount for larger groups of youngsters, this may suit a stud with limited space.
ABOUT US
Elsa is the horsey one; she has lived and breathed them from the get go. With many years experience in the horse world, working with everything from international dressage horses to native ponies, she even had a (albeit brief!) stint riding racehorses! For the last six years she has run a pony led business providing livery, matching ponies with homes and sourcing ponies for clients. During this time she has cared for horses and ponies of all shapes, sizes and dispositions; she firmly believes that horses should live as natural and enriching life as possible and every animal should be treated as an individual. This is the basis of all of her work in the horse world. She and her small, dedicated team of grooms do the day to day looking after, handing out a lot of attention and affection as they go.
David trained as a mechanical engineer but came back to the family farm when his father retired; he is a super stockman having bred many national prize-winning British White cows. We all enjoy the annual spectacle of him halter training the young bulls, which he does with surprising ease because he just has that special way around animals. Farmer Doolittle if you will! He does all the hard labour, diligently maintains the land (though his stripes aren’t very straight - he’d never make it as a dressage rider!) and mends all the things horses so gleefully like to break!
Having been friends for years and with a very similar outlook on animal welfare, working with the land and protecting nature, they decided to join forces to run Tretower Livery together.
THE SHEPHERDS HUT
We are aware that as beautiful and peaceful as our area is, we are not on everyone’s doorstep! We have a gorgeous shepherds hut on site and offer discounts on stays to livery clients so you can come, visit your horse and explore our stunning part of the world.
